Texas esthetician insurance serves as a safety net for estheticians practicing their trade in the “The Lone Star State,” and you must carry an individual esthetician insurance policy in order to protect yourself from liability claims that may arise out of your work. An unforeseen event could cost you a lot of money, damage your reputation, and even cause you to lose your livelihood. Don’t risk your hard-earned career by not protecting yourself through carrying liability insurance. It is also important to ensure you have a valid license from the state allowing you to engage in the practice of esthetics in Texas.

In order to obtain a license to practice esthetics in the state of Texas, individuals must complete a minimum of 750 hours of training in a licensed school. After the training, students must pass the licensing exam issued by the TX Board of Cosmetology to receive a license. Working experience cannot be accepted in lieu of those training hours. The state of Texas also provides licensure through reciprocity, and licensed estheticians in those states that have reciprocity with the state can apply to transfer their licenses to Texas.

How Much Does Texas Esthetician Insurance Cost?

With a wide range of options available for Texas Esthetician insurance, you could pay more than you should for your liability insurance. However, thanks to BIP’s commitment to keep our premiums competitive, you can receive high-quality coverage at a fraction of the cost of the other guys. We offer multiple insurance plans to fit your budget and lifestyle. Whether you're just starting in your career or are a seasoned veteran, we have a plan option for you. As a member, you can choose from the following plans.

  • Students pay just $49 per year of coverage
  • One year of coverage for full-time estheticians for just $169
  • Two years of coverage for full-time estheticians for just $299

As a professional esthetician in Texas, you face industry-specific risks arising from accidents, failed treatments, or client’s reactions to products or treatments. If a treatment causes bodily injury or financial loss to a client, you can be exposed to litigation and reputation damage. Esthetics treatment risks include: burns resulting from waxing treatments gone wrong, burns to the skin, rashes or reactions from eyelash tints, rashes or reactions to bleaches and other skin care products, and biological hazards caused by infestations or infections.

These risks might seem improbable, but they can happen. You must ensure that you’re adequately protected from the unexpected. Many estheticians are increasingly finding themselves facing financially draining lawsuits lodged by disgruntled clients. Remember you can never control or predict all the circumstances that can possibly arise while giving cosmetic treatments to a client. Even when you’ve taken all the necessary precautions and provided Consent, Waiver, and Release forms to clients, and educated them about the fact that accidents can occur, situations may still arise out of your work that could lead to a civil case, complaint, or lawsuit filed against you and your practice. Esthetician insurance gives you peace of mind as you no longer have to worry over those countless “what-if” situations that could happen.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I have prerequisites to complete?

If you are at least 17 years old and have a high school diploma or equivalent, you are eligible to obtain an esthetician license in the state of Texas.

What do I need to do to obtain my esthetician license?

You will have to complete 750 school hours and pass both written and practical exams.

Do I need a license to be a esthetician instructor?

Yes, you will need an operator license plus 750 hours of instructor training; or one year of work experience along with 500 hours of instructor training.

Does Texas require me to complete CEUs?

Yes, four department-approved CEU hours are required for renewal of your license.

How often do I need to renew my esthetician license?

A person practicing as an esthetician must renew his or her license every two years by the date of the original licensure—along with a $53 dollar fee.

Moving to Texas from another state?

No problem, just make sure you hold an esthetician license in a state with substantially equivalent requirements. In some cases, work experience may be credited.

Does Texas require esthetician insurance?

While Texas does not legally require estheticians to hold liability insurance, it could be a big mistake to go without it. Not only does esthetician liability insurance protect you from the cost of a lawsuit against you, but it could be a requirement for many salons and spas. Of course, mitigating the risk of a liability lawsuit is a critical component to a secure financial future and career in this industry. To protect yourself and keep your finances secure, every esthetician must have cosmetology insurance.

Why Is It Important to Have Insurance For Your Career?

Providing beauty services often requires close contact with clients, which can increase the risk of accidents occurring. While it's easy to think that the chances of something going wrong are low, the truth is that accidents do happen, and it's essential to be prepared to protect both yourself and your career.

For instance, if you're applying hair color to a client, and the treatment is left on for too long, it could result in damage to the hair or burns to the scalp. In such a scenario, the client may decide to sue you for damages or emotional distress, leaving you to bear the entire cost of the lawsuit. However, if you have the right liability insurance, your finances and reputation will remain protected.

Rather than taking chances with your livelihood, it's crucial to prioritize protecting your career and business by having the appropriate insurance coverage in place. With insurance, you can work confidently, knowing that you're prepared for any unexpected incidents that may arise while providing your valued services to clients.
