Top News: How Georgia Bill 354 Impacts You
What You Need to Know
As of May 2nd of this year (2024), Senate Bill 354 was passed, and removed licensing requirements for certain types of beauty services. Georgia still requires 1,500 hours or roughly nine months in school or at an apprenticeship in order to apply for a license, but almost as soon as this bill passed, the bill's sponsors are looking to exempt more beauty and barbering services/modalities next year, as well as potentially reduce (or eliminate) education requirements.

What You Need to Know
During the 2023-2024 legislative session, New York Senate bill S6528 was passed - making it the 20th state to do so in the last five years. This bill, essentially, requires that both education and testing for cosmetologists and/or natural hair stylists must be inclusive of education and testing that regard knowledge of providing services to all hair types and textures. This includes (but is not strictly limited to ((depending on state)), a plethora of curl or wave patterns, hair strand thicknesses, volumes of hair, and more.

What You Need to Know
BUT not for much longer! Retroactive Covid relief funds are still available for Self-Employed Beauty & Barber Pros. But time is running out to collect up to $32,200! If you don’t finish your FFCRA application by next April, part of your total tax credit opportunity will evaporate. That’s because all 2021 claims will expire, which is the last year these are applicable to any lost income due to the Covid-19 Pandemic.
