For those who would like to work as an esthetician in California, you are first going to have to complete 600 hours of schooling to do so. You must be at least 17 years of age, and you have to hold at least the equivalent of a tenth grade education.
In the state, reciprocity is allowed for those who are coming in from out of state, if you meet the following: pay the fee, show proof of current license, and prove that you have worked in the field for a period of five years of longer.
In terms of license renewal, it is required that you renew your license every two years; if after five years no renewal attempts have been made, your license is no longer valid, and you are not going to be able to renew it at all if you do not complete schooling again.
If you are a trainer or instructor in the state, you are also going to be required to do continual education courses when you go in to renew your license every two years, to ensure you are up to date with latest rules, regulations, and instruction in the field.
